The participants of Debate changing Europe moved to Brussels today. They had learned about lobbying and advocacy strategies in Europe in Maastricht the day before. Now they spent the day in Brussels to experience how the institutions of the EU function in real life. They came back filled with new impressions and a much broader understanding of the balances and nuances within the EU.

The Debate changing Europe event opened on Monday June 3 with a training on lobbying skills in Maastricht. The training included theoretical information on lobbying and the practical workings of the European Union as well as practical exercises to familiarize the students with the lobbying process.

Dertig studenten uit heel Europa komen zondag twee juni samen in Maastricht voor het Common European Event van het universiteitsproject Debate changing Europe. Zij zullen daar trainingen krijgen in lobbyen in de Europese Unie, leren in de EU instituties te navigeren en ideeën uitwisselen over hoe jeugdwerkloosheid kan worden aangepakt in heel Europa.

Thirty students from all over Europe will be gathering in Maastricht today for the Common European Event of the university project Debate changing Europe. They will learn how to use their debating skills or public advocacy and lobbying in the European Union, how to navigate the EU institutional processes and they will exchange views on how to improve youth employment across Europe.

The Stockholm IV was the first ever debate tournament in English held in Stockholm and only the second of its kind held in Sweden after the Lund Open of 2011. The Student Debating Society of the Stockholm School of Economics were the main organisers of the event, which was part of the Debate changing Europe project, a European tournament and public debate series.

They are about 350 kilometers apart and share litte direct connections, but the cities of Aachen and Groningen were home to two simultaneous debating tournaments on the weekend of May 10 to 12. While Groningen was hosting its fourth consecutive tournament and just celebrated its fifth anniversary, the Zeit Debatte in Aachen was the first of its kind by a young student debating society. Both tournaments were very well-run and produced many happy comments by participants though.
